\u201cWho Does Not Have Any Debt?\u201d \tLuke 7:36-8:3 at LCR
\nGrace and Peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ!<\/p>\n

You do not need to raise your hands to the questions I am going to ask now\u2026 Who, among us, does not have debt? I believe there are people who do not have any financial debt. Let me ask the question this way… Reflect on the Ten Commandments. Or just think about the two most important commands Jesus gave us, \u201cLove God and Love Your Neighbors\u201d
\nWhether or not you keep these commands clarifies whether or not you sin. Who, among us, does not commit sin?
\nTwo questions: \u201cWho does not have debt?\u201d and \u201cWho does not sin?\u201d these are the same question.
\nLet us look at the Gospel Text. Simon, a Pharisee invited Jesus to dinner. The word \u201cPharisee\u201d comes from the word in Hebrew \u201cperusium\u201d which means to separate. So, the Pharisees, separated themselves from sinners.
\nThe reason why Simon invited Jesus was to see if Jesus is a real prophet that God had sent into this world. \u3000
\nWhen dinner time came, a sinful women appeared. She knelt behind Jesus at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.
\n When Simon saw what was happening and who the woman was, he judged, that Jesus was not a prophet that God sent. If God had really sent him, he would know what kind of woman was touching him. She’s a sinner!
\nJesus then began telling a parable. “A man loaned money to two people \u2013 something like fifty thousand dollars to one and five thousand to the other. But neither of them could repay him, so he kindly forgave them both, canceling their debts.\u201d
\nHere, the man, the creditor, is Father, God. The two debtors represent the woman and Simon, even though, Simon thinks that he has no debt.
\nI would like to talk about the two words, debt and sin. In Matthew 6, Jesus taught us the Lord\u2019s Prayer. When we pray this prayer, we say \u201cForgive our trespasses or sin\u201d the word used in Greek is \u201copheilemata\u201d which means \u201cdebtots.\u201d
\nIn the parable, Jesus is not talking about financial debt but sin. God forgave both debtors, sinners, because they could not repay their debts. God knows they could not do anything about their sins.
\nThe woman at Jesus\u2019 feet, knows she cannot do anything about her sins, debt. She could not repay on her own. God, Jesus Christ, did not reject her but loved her, accepted her, forgave her, and gave her hope to live. This is the message of forgiveness from the Father, God, and the Son, Jesus.
\nGod wants human beings to repent for their sins and recover their relationship with God, that means the debt is forgiven, and then recover relationships with neighbors as brothers and sisters. Unlike the Pharisees who separate themselves from sinners, God wanted Simon as a sinner, a debtor, to recover his relationship with Father and also with the woman as a sister. I am not sure whether or not Simon got it.
\nWe have a tremendous debt to the Father, however, because of Jesus\u2019 death on the cross, we are clear that our debt is forgiven. And, because of the resurrection, as Jesus lives among us and within us, we also may live with hope and promise in Jesus Christ. The very good news is our debt and sins are forgiven today. <\/p>\n

Today is Father\u2019s Day. In Japanese there is a word, \u201cKaminari Oyaji.\u201d Kaminari means lightening and \u201cOyaji\u201d means Father. Lightening usually creates fear. Therefore, when we say, \u201cKaminari Oyaji,\u201d it means \u201cFearful Father.\u201d However there is another meaning in \u201cKaminari\u201d when you pronounce this word, which means \u201clike God\u201d or \u201csimilar to God\u201d
\nThe central theme of today\u2019s message is the Father, God, who forgives our sin, our debt.
\nDear fathers or all men on this earth, please consider if you are one to be feared or one who is known to be forgiving.
\nThe key question is: \u201cWho, among us, does not have debt?\u201d \u3000
