May the Lord\u2019s Grace and Peace be poured into the hearts of the people gathered in this sanctuary! <\/p>\n

In early June, Satoko and I took a vacation to Boston for our 30th anniversary. Even though we were on vacation, we still looked for a place to worship on Sunday June 7th. At first, we chose University Lutheran Church near Harvard University.
\nOn Thursday morning, my wife and I were walking there to verify its location. While walking, we found a poster saying that they pray for peace every night from May 28th through August 5th between 7:00 p.m. and 7:16 p.m. Since this year is the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, they decided to pray for 70 days from May 28th until 7:16 p.m. Eastern time on August 5th which is the time when the first Atomic Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima at 8:15 a.m. (Japan time) on August 6th.
\nIf we think about that incident, various images will come to mind, but I want to make sure that this message doesn\u2019t discuss whether it was right or wrong. Instead, I want to focus on a girl who, at 2 years old, experienced the radioactive effects of the bomb because she was 1 mile away from the ground zero. Because of her exposure, at the age of 12 she passed away due to leukemia. Since some of you went to Hiroshima, you might remember her name, Sadako Sasaki.
\nShe knew that she had to say goodbye to her beloved family and friends, but she never gave up hope. She believed by praying and folding thousands of paper cranes, she would be given wings, fly and live forever. People continue sharing her tragic, but inspiring story to this day.<\/p>\n

Here, I would like to dive into the Gospel text. The messengers from Jairus\u2019 family came to Jairus, was a leader of the local synagogue. His 12-year old girl had died. Since she was already dead, people told Jesus it was not worth it for him to visit their family, although Jairus did ask him to come and save her once.
\nHowever, Jesus said to Jairus, \u201cFear not, and have faith,\u201d then Jesus and the three disciples made their way, past people openly mourning and weeping in front of the home, and accompanied Jairus into his home.
\nJesus said, \u201cHave faith.\u201d What does this statement mean? What kind of faith does he want Jairus and others to have? Mark told another story before the messenger came to Jesus A woman in the crowd suffered constant bleeding for twelve years. Despite her pain, she did not give up hope and thought that if only she touched Jesus, she would be healed. I think this is the type of faith Jesus wants people to have.<\/p>\n

Jesus said, \u201cDaughter, your faith made you well. Go in peace. Your suffering is over\u201d I think faith is not just believing something in one\u2019s mind, but it\u2019s overcoming one\u2019s fear\/hopelessness, never giving up and trusting almighty God 100 percent. Action follows sincere faith.
\nAfter Jesus felt God\u2019s healing power cure the woman, he then came to the home where Jairus\u2019s dead daughter was, saying to her, \u201cTalith Koum\u201d which means \u201cLittle girl, get up.\u201d The 12 year-old girl got up and started walking around her home. Jesus\u2019 faith in God\u2019s power alone did not revive the girl; her parents\u2019 faith was necessary as well. <\/p>\n

Let\u2019s return to Sadako Sasaki\u2019s story. I have not seen any articles or records that showed that she was a Christian but I believe her innocent faith and her prayers were\/are connected to our God.
\nResponding to her prayers, God made her spirit fly with thousands of paper cranes and she is living within the hearts of people all over the world. I know of at least two statues honoring Sadako along the West Coast. One\u2019s in Seattle, Washington and the other\u2019s in Santa Barbara, California.
\nIn today\u2019s world, there are different types of conflicts. Two such conflicts are wars fought by nations and domestic struggles such as protesting racial inequality. I am still not sure if any words can adequately express my feelings on the matter. At Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston, South Carolina; despite such an horrific act, I believe God is urging us to have true faith, telling us to never give up hope, to trust and rely on Him 100 percent and to pray for Christ\u2019s peace. God is always with us, but especially during times of great need.

If you start using this inspirational material on July 7th, you will complete 40 days on Saturday August 15th. Then on Sunday, August 16th, our worship services will focus on Christ\u2019s call for us to be peacemakers. <\/p>\n

At first, we chose University Lutheran Church near Harvard University. On Thursday morning, my wife and I were walking there to verify its location. While walking, we found a poster saying that they pray for peace every night from May 28th through August 5th between 7:00 p.m. and 7:16 p.m. Since this year is the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, they decided to pray for 70 days from May 28th until 7:16 p.m. Eastern time on August 5th which is the time when the first Atomic Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima at 8:15 a.m. (Japan time) on August 6th. If we think about that incident, various images will come to mind, but I want to make sure that this message doesn\u2019t discuss whether it was right or wrong.
