喜び溢れる帰還 ルカ10: 1-11, 16-20
主イエス・キリストの恵みと平安が集まった会衆の上に豊かにありますように!
神学校で学んでいた時、聖書について二つの譬えを学んだ。 ひとつは聖書を窓としてみること。 もうひとつは聖書を鏡としてみること。 何人かの人にはもうお話したことがあるが、この譬えはとても意味がある譬なので、今日もこの譬を簡単に説明したい。窓を見る、たいていその外で何が起こっているかを見ている。 しかし、その窓が、突如として、自分自身を写している鏡になることがある。それと同じように、聖書を読んでいると、例えば新約聖書なら2000年前の様子を見ているような気分になる。 或いは、旧約聖書のサムエル記であれば、3000年前の様子とみている。
しかし、その聖書が突如として鏡のようになってくることがある。 それは、その聖書の中に描かれた様子のなかに、実は、自分も描かれているように思えてくる。 つまり、何千年も前に起こったことが、自分の人生の現実になってくるようなところがある。
本日与えられた福音書の箇所は、イエスが72人を派遣するところ。ここで、みなさんに質問をしたい。 先程ルカ福音書の内容を聞かれていたとき、聖書を窓として聞かれていたでしょうか、あるいは、鏡として聞かれていたでしょうか。 もちろん、正解はなく、みなさんのなかには、両方と思うかたもいると思う。
本日のメッセージでは、まず、窓として、2000年前の様子を振り返ってみたい。 とくに、イエスが弟子たちに教えた教訓をもとに、弟子たちがさまざまな家に入って話した言葉に集中したい。
弟子たちが知らない人の家に入って、最初にしゃべった言葉は、「シャローム」という言葉をだ。 この言葉、ユダヤの人々の間ではとても一般的な挨拶だったと思う。 そして、彼等がそれなりの歓待を受けたところで、さらに「神の王国が近づいた。」と宣言した。この言葉には、多いに希望があった。
なぜなら、その時のイスラエル情勢は不安定で、人々にストレスもたまっていた。 しかし、神がイスラエルの王となって支配するという話に、勇気付けられた。そして派遣は大成功で72人は喜びに溢れてイエスの所に戻ってきた。
この72人が派遣される前に、もし歓待されない場合は、「足についた埃さえも払い落として、あなたがたに返す。」と言ってくるように言われたが、敢えて、このような言葉は語らないで済んだ。というのは、72人は帰ってきたとき、「イエスのお名前を使うと悪霊さえも私たちに屈服した。」とあるから。
ここまで、今日の聖書を「窓」として、話してきたが、次に聖書を 「鏡」として、話していきたい。 2000年前に起こったことが、21世紀の時代背景の中でも、現実となって行く。
例えて言うと、私たちは72人の一人となって、さまざまな困難に出会う時代であっても、この礼拝堂から送り出され、イエスの王国を言い広めるように導かれている。 真理を宣べ伝えるならば、否定されない。信仰者の一人として、いままで知らなかったところへ派遣される。派遣されるにあたり一人であっても、すくなくとももう一人、イエス・キリストという方、聖霊なるお方が横にいることを覚えて。 最初に語る言葉は、聖霊に導かれて挨拶の言葉を語る。それは「ニーハオ」かもしれないし、「おはようございます。」かもしれない。 そして、「神の国がここある。」と話す。 なぜなら、主がわたしたちの間に、そして、私たちの中に、おられるから。 たとえ、いろいろな国や地域が存在し、異なる文化がまじりあって生きていても、この全宇宙、そして、この地球もも勿論、主の支配の中にある。
そして、喜びに溢れて、また礼拝堂に戻ってきて、「私たち全員、私たちが知らなかった人々から歓待をうけ、人々は、神こそすべての宇宙を支配されている王であることに気づき、主を受け入れた。」と語る。
本日の聖書の箇所、ただ、「窓」として過去を見るのではなく、鏡として読み、その中で私たちもイエスの信仰を分かちあっている自分たちを新たに発見することになるように祈る。

Grace and Peace to you in the name of our Lord and our Savior, Jesus Christ!
While I was a seminary student, I learned two metaphors about the Bible. Number One: “the Bible is a window”; Number Two: “the Bible is a mirror.” Let me briefly explain what they are. If you look at window we usually look at what’s out there…however, that window may become a mirror and you may see yourself.
Likewise, if you are reading the Bible, you may look at what happened 2000 years when you read New Testament or depending on which book you read, you might look at what occurred 3000 years ago if you are reading “Samuel.” In this way, you read the Bible as window.
However, the Bible may become a mirror…which means, you see yourself in a situation that is described in the Bible. In other words, what happened two or three thousand years ago may become a reality in your own life.
Today’s Gospel that was just read, is a famous story that Jesus sent seventy two others. I would like to ask each one of you to think about the following question: when you were listening to this story, was the Bible “a window” or “a mirror”? Of course there is no right or wrong answer…it could be both.
Here in today’s message – I would like to go back 2000 years ago and first use the Bible as window, and focus on what disciples said based on Jesus’ teachings when they visited houses for the first time.
The first phrase they said was “Shalom to this house.” This was a very common greeting in Israel. And after they were welcomed, they said “The Kingdom of God is near you.” These words were very hopeful because people wondered who would control Israel. Would Jewish leaders continue to rule or Roman Empire would take over completely?
That was the time of uncertainty and many people were under stress. However, when people were told that God would become the king of Israel and control it, people were encouraged. And the seventy two joyfully returned to Jesus that all visits to houses were pretty successful.
Before they were sent out Jesus warned them, only if they were not welcomed, they were directed to say “we wipe off the dust that clings to our feet, but please remember the Kingdom of God is near.” However, I believe they were all welcomed and did not have to say these words, because according to the last verse, “they joyfully reported to him, “Lord, even the demons obey us when we use your name!”
So far, I have been explaining the scripture as a window. But next, I would like to use the Bible as a mirror. What happened 2000 years ago becomes reality in the context of our lives in the 21st century.
Metaphorically, we are asked to see ourselves as one of the seventy two – to proclaim God’s lordship even in times of difficulty. If you speak the truth about the Kingdom of God, you will not be denied. As a believer you are asked visit a house, in a town, that you have never visited in the past. You may go with someone or you might be alone, but you remember that at least you are with Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit. You say a very common greeting, something similar to “Peace be with you;” the Holy Spirit guides your exact words and you are welcomed.
Then you say “the Kingdom of God is here,” because our Lord is among us and within us. Even though we have so many different cities, regions, and countries and each has different leaders, despite this the entire Earth and the entire universe are under God’s reign.
And you joyfully return to sanctuary saying “We were all welcomed by the people we visited and they turned to God realizing that He is the Lord of all and the king of the whole universe.”
I pray that what was described in the Gospel today you look at not only as a window into the past but also as a mirror through which we see ourselves living and sharing the illuminating faith of Jesus Christ. Amen.
