「富める青年」 “Young rich man”
私たちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストより恵みと平安があなた方の上にあるように。アーメン。
皆さんは時々外食することがありますか? 私は朝家を出て、夜に会議のある日にはある決まったレストランにお昼と夜の食事をこめての食事をします。それも何時も行く所はそんなに遠くないところにあるステーキのお店です。3時ごろに行くとほとんど人がいませんが、あちらこちらに何人かの一人で食事をしている人を見かけます。
先生はそんな所でステーキを食べるなんて豪勢な生活をしていますねと言われてしますかもしれませんが、実際にはそこでステーキというよりも、 buffet style のサラダ・バーを食べに行くのです。しかしそこにはChicken wingもあるし、クラム・チャウダーのスープもあります。そして果物も、ソフト・クリームもデザートであります。はっきり言って、もうこのレストランで食べる物の味が食べ初める前に分かっているので、あまりexcite しませんが、それでもそこで時にはゆっくり食事をし、次の週の説教の下書きを始めることもあります。よく見渡すと、一人で食べている人があちこちにいるのです。
宣伝ではありませんが、それがSizzler と言うレストランではないだろうかと思っていた人もいるでしょう。そのとおりです。庶民的なお店です。
ところで最近このレストランで、 “No sharing” と言うサインが会計の所においてあるのを見ました。と言うことは、二人で来た時に独りがハンバーガーを、そして二人目の人がall you can eat のサラダ・バーをオーダーして、サラダ・バーはall you can eat ですが、それを一緒に食べるのはお断りということです。時には、お父さんと思いますが、小さな子供と共に食事をしている人達を何回か見かけたこともあります。お皿に山盛りのチキン・ウイング、クラム・チャウダー、フルーツの山盛りをテーブルで、食べているのです。別にこの人達と話したわけではありませんが、どうもホーム・レスの人達ではないかと感じたこともあります。時には私も、「あの人はここでよく見かける人でいつも独りきりだ。もしかしたらあの人もホーム・レスの人か」と思われているかもしれません。“No sharing” と言う言葉を、このようなレストランで掲げてられているのは分かります。しかし私たちクリスチャンにとっては、イエス様は私たちの救い主でるイエス様の愛を皆さんに知っていただきたい訳ですから、Sharing Good News of Jesus はとても大切なことです。
長い前置きになりましたが、今日の福音書の中で、一人の男がイエス様の所にきてこう言いました。「よき師よ、永遠の命を受けるために何をしたら良いでしょうか」。この青年はモーセの10戒を守ってきました。皆からもいい人と呼ばれていたでしょう。しかしイエス様は彼に言いました。「あなたに足りないことが一つある。帰って、持っているものを皆売り払って、貧しい人達に施しなさい。そうすれば、天に宝を持つようになろう。そして私に従ってきなさい」。すると、彼はこの言葉を聞いて、顔を曇らせ、悲しみながら立ち去ったのです。と言うのは彼は沢山の資産を持っていたからです。
人々に私たちの持っているもの、それは物質にしろ、お金にしろ、私たちの祈り、思いやりにしろ、それらを分け与えることはキリスト者として、イエス様から言い渡されているのです。しかしクリスチャンだからではなく、私たちの多くは、小さい時から親にそう言われてきたはずです。ある兄弟の男の子が雪の日にお母さんからこう言われました。「あなたたち、そりで遊ぶのはいいけれど、一つしかないそりを交代で使いなさいね」と。お兄さんがそれに答えて、「そのとおりにしてますよ。僕はそりを山の上からすべる時に使い、その後、弟に渡して、山の上まで持たせてあげてます」と。勿論これは冗談ですが、分け与えるとは私たち人間としての義務ではないでしょうか？ 初期のキリスト教が広まって行った一つの大きな理由は、お互いがお互いに物を共有して、お互いをかばいながら生きていく生活をしてきたからです。人生の中で私たち一人ひとりが大切なのですが、お互いに、物質的にも、精神的にも、共に他の人達と交わって生きていくことはとても大切なことです。
もと牧師として働いた教会で、お年寄りの方が病気になった時、又は、転んで動くことが不自由になった会員さんに、婦人会の人達が良く食べものを作ってくださり、それを配達したことがあります。心のこもったデザートのパイもありました。それを受け取った人は、ただ感謝して受け取るだけでいいのですが、時にはアルミのパイのお皿に今度は食事をいただいた婦人が自分の得意なパイを作り、それを入れて返してくれたこともありました。そこには感謝の念がこもっていたのです。
お互いがお互いを助け合うと言うことは、私たちが自分の神様からいただいた能力を生かしてそれに励むと言うことではないでしょうか。このことを英語ではSpiritual gift と言います。ある人はひとりで5つも6つものSpiritual Gift を持っている人もいますが、だれでもひとつあるいは2つの Spiritual Gift を持っているはずです。それは何ですかと言えば、音楽の才能、コンピューターに詳しいこと、俳句、短歌、詩吟、お茶、踊り、カラオケ、ダンス、料理、裁縫、スポーツ、病気の人への訪問、庭の手入れと永遠に続くのですが、ここにいる皆さんもそのように自分の持っているギフトを使って分かち合って生きていくことは大切です。
それらの才能は神様からいただいたもので、神様はその才能を皆さんに使って貰いたいのです。それを一つ例を持って皆さんに聞いて欲しいのは、Aiko Gordillo さんの所で月に2回行われる、12人ほどの人の集まる家庭集会です。その場所を提供してくれることがすでにSpiritual Gift であり、皆さんが持ち寄りのご馳走もそのとおりです。そこで賛美歌を歌ってくださる皆さん、音楽の指導をしてくださるさと子さん、色々な花や料理に使える野菜を持ってきてくださる民さん、そして聖書を読んで、皆さんと色々な意見、体験談を話すことにできる、聞くこともできる私たちは幸福です。このように私たち一人ひとり神様から何かのSpiritual gift をいただいているので、それを人との交わりの中で使うのが私たちの義務でもあるのです。
コリント人への第１の手紙１２章４節から６節にかけてこう書いてあります。
「賜物はいろいろありますが、それをお与えになるのは同じ霊です。務には色々ありますが、それをお与えになるのは同じ主です。働きにはいろいろありますが、すべての場合に全てのことをなさるのは同じ神様です。一人一人に、“霊”の働きが現れるのは、全体の益となるためです。」
ところで、皆さんが、教会の誰かのお葬式に行ってそこで故人の賛美を聞いたことがありますか。そこで、牧師さんが聖書のこのような言葉を語ったのを覚えているでしょう。それは福音書に書かれている「良い忠実な僕よ、よくやった」。という言葉です。英語で “Well done, faithful servant” です。それはどんな場面の時だったでしょうか？
それは良きサマリや人が負傷している男を助けた時です。それは棕櫚の日曜日にイエス様にロバを提供した男の事です。そして5千人が山の上でのイエス様の説教を聴きに来た時、イエス様はどうにかして、5つのパンと2匹の魚をもって5千人以上の人達に食べさせてくれることができるでしょうと信じた少年に対してです。
私たちが神様から愛されていることを知り、その愛を他人へのサービスとして使う時に神様は私たちの全てに神様の愛を深く感じさせてくださるのではないでしょうか。
祈りましょう。私たち人間として一番大切なことは共に心を開いて語り合える友達がいる、悩みの時に、私たちを支えてくれる仲間がいることです。どうかイエス様、私たちの心の友を大切にして、お互いに助け合って人生を暮らせるように導いてください。この祈りを、私たちの神であり、また、私たちの友達であるイエス様の名前によって祈ります。アーメン。
Gospel according to St. Mark 10:17-31
“Young Rich man”
May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace. Amen.
Do you eat out during the week days? I do. When I have a night meeting, I usually do not eat the lunch and wait till around 4:00 PM and I eat early dinner. I usually go to the same restaurant called Sizzler because they have a buffet and you can choose from many things.
I eat extremely slowly so that I can eat and read. Sizzler is supposed to know as a steak house, but I like the salad bar and clam chowder, and fresh fruits. Usually there are handful people in the restaurant when I get there, but the other day I found the sign that states, “No sharing”.I guess there are people who come as twosome and one orders a small burger and the second person orders the salad bar that is all you can eat. Evidently two people are sharing one salad bar and that is no no.
As much as the restaurant is known as a steak house, I have enough to choose from chicken wings to tacos, spaghetti and meat balls and my favorite, the clam chowder.I like to observe people while I eat. Some eat desert first, then fruits then main meal, but restaurant like Sizzler you can do anyway you want.Since I eat at the particular Sizzler at least once a week, I get to see some of the familiar faces and company. I don’t know them and their names, but they know me, because some of them are doing similar to what I do. Skip breakfast, lunch and eat dinner early while the restaurant is almost empty.I believe some of the friendly faces are homeless people. They have a big bag that must contain life’s necessity items, and some of them comes with a child or two together.I try not to eat too much wings, but I love their clam chowder. I sometimes bring the Bible and newspaper and start writing a sermon for the next Sunday.
Going back to the sign of “No Sharing”. I understand why they have to put that sign, but the sharing becomes necessity in order to have a good meal once a day for some people.
In today’s Gospel, a man comes to Jesus with a question: “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” The fellow has kept the commandments. Apparently he’s a pretty good fellow. But Jesus says to him – “You lack one thing.” Just one – the fellow probably thought—“I’m just about there to eternal life – one more test… oh, come on Jesus, give me that one more test. ”Jesus said, “Go, sell what you own, and give the money to the poor.” The Mark’s gospel writes that this man was shocked – and went away grieving. So close to eternal life – and yet so far!
Being willing to share what we have is a mark of the Christian life. But how about the following story.
There was a mother who warned her older son to share his sled with his younger brother. The elder boy answered his Mother that he was sharing the sled with his brother. He explained it, “I use the sled going downhill and I let him use it coming up back hill.”
Sharing is a way of life –it was a way of life for the early Christians. Listen to those words from the book of Acts.
“The group of believers was one in mind and heart. No one said that any of his belongings was their own, but they all shared with one another everything they had. There was no one in need. Those who owned fields or houses would sell them, bring the money received….and turns it over to the apostles; and the money was distributed to each one according to his need.
The early Christians learned the meaning of sharing what they had. But when we talk of sharing, we’re not just talking about material things. There are also other gifts that we are called on to share. There are our energies and talents that we have been given.
These are called our “Spiritual Gifts”- some have a lot and some have one or two. It’s not the question of how many you have – it’s a question of what you do with the gifts you have been given. Some of the gifts that we’ve been given may be different.
St. Paul says there are different kinds of gifts – different ways of serving – different abilities – but the same God gives ability to everyone.I believe there is a song entitled “A Place in the Choir.” Some sing low and some sing higher, some sing out loud, on the telephone wire, and some just clap their hands or paws.”
At funerals it is often nice to say of the deceased in the following fashion, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” This is from the Bible and this is the commendation awarded in the parable of the talents to those people who used their gifts that God gave them.
So all of you, you are gifted people – gifted by God.
To deny it is a terrible sin.
To develop it is a blessing to yourself and others.
To use it is responsible stewardship.
To risk it is to live a life of faith and trust.
