ヨハネによる福音書 18：33-37
今日の福音であるヨハネ１８：３７後半に「わたしは真理について証しをするために生まれ、そのためにこの世に来た。真理に属する人は皆、わたしの声に聞く。」とあります。
あるクリスチャンスクールで、ひとりの生徒が休み時間に教師に質問しました。「先生はよく 『ほんとうの』 というけれども、『ほんとう』 とは何なの」と。その教師は動揺して、その時のことを今でもはっきり覚えているそうです。
私たちが普通に「真理」といえば、「思いや言葉が事実と合致していること」とか、「実験をしたりして真実性が検証されたこと」というように、こちら側の認識に重点が置かれます。しかし聖書が語る「真理」はものの側の、というか、あちら側の「堅固さ、確かさ」を指しているようです。ですから、「真理の言葉」とは、「事実と合致した言葉」というよりは、「その言葉のもつ確かさ、信頼性」に注目した表現のようです。このように知ると、私たちは、イエスの声に心の耳を澄ませて、全身全霊をもって傾聴して、イエスの声の「まこと」「確かさ、信頼性」を自分のものとすることが大切であることに気づかされます。
「祈る」とは、願いをすることよりも、「神さまのお声に心の耳を澄ませる」ことのようです。東日本大震災を通して私が知らされたことはまさにこのことでありました。
神さまの時計は実に正確です。そのことを通して、神さまが私たちの在り様を驚くほどよくご存じであることを知らされます。時を告げることを通して、神さまは私たちに決然と指示を出されます。とても逆らえるものではありません。従うしかありません。でも、それは喜びが、楽しさが溢れてくることに繋がっています。

John 18:37 “…I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of the truth listen to me.”
At one Christian school, a student asked the teacher “You frequently say ‘the Truth’. What is the truth?”The teacher was dumb struck. He still remembers that moment very clearly.
When we say “the truth”, it means that our thoughts and words match reality, or its credibility was proven by the experiment. These justifications of the truth emphasize our values.However, “the truth” in the Bible is based on its divine value of solid and precise. So the truth in the gospel means firm, trustworthy words rather than facts or statements that match action or result.
Once we understand this, we realize how extremely important it is for us to listen to the voice of Jesus with our hearts and soul. By doing that, we are able to make His words of truth, precise, and trustworthy on our own.
Prayers are not just asking God what we want; our prayer should be that we listen to the voice of God. I have certainly learned this after the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake, as I have been serving the people who were affected by the disaster.
God’s clock is precise. Through that fact, we understand how God knows everything about us. God sets the clock and gives us His orders determinedly. They cannot be avoided nor refused. We can only follow His commands. But it will lead us to our joy and to an abundance of happiness.
