「ひとりじゃないの」 マタイ 1: 18-25
ここに集まった会衆の上に、また、この礼拝を覚えながらもこの場所に集えない兄弟姉妹にも、主イエス・キリストの恵みと平安が豊かにあるように！ アーメン
1970年代に日本の国民的スーパーアイドルとなった天地真理さんという歌手を知っている方おられると思う。 数々のヒット曲、水色の恋、小さな恋、ひとりじゃないの、虹をわたって、若葉のささやき、等々、のヒット曲が生まれた。最大のヒット曲は何だったかご存知だろうか？ ウィキペディアなどで検索してみたが、「ひとりじゃないの」が最大のヒットだそうだ。私はかってから、たった2－3分の歌なのに、それが世間の注目を集める背後には、主イエスが働いているような思いがしてならない。 カンという歌手の「愛は勝つ」、子門真人の「およげたい焼きくん」なども、讃美歌として歌われるわけではないが、私は主イエスキリストとの関係を無視しないわけにはいかないようなストーリがあると思っている。今日は、本日の福音書と関係のある「ひとりじゃないの」ということに焦点を当ててお話したい。
第四アドベントの聖日に与えられている聖書の箇所、さきほど読んだ通りである。 聖母マリアの妊娠の話は、ルカ福音書ではマリアに焦点があたっているが、マタイ福音書では男性のヨセフに焦点があたっている。 ここにおられる方々は女性が多いが、ちょっと無理な話かもしれないが、仮に婚約中の男性の気持ちになってほしい。そして、婚約相手が、自分に身におぼえがないのに妊娠したとしよう。どんな気持ちになるだろうか？ 今日、不思議なことに、というか意味のある偶然だというべきか、礼拝の後、婚約式をされるカップルがおられる。今日の福音書箇所は、聖書の中で、著しく意味深いヨセフとマリアの婚約に関わる話だ。とにかく、婚約中に婚約相手の女性が別の男性と関係を持ったとしか考えられず、妊娠してしまうなんて、ただごとではない、冗談じゃないという話だ。ヨセフの場合は、ひそかに縁を切ろうと心を決める。 どうしようもない状況のヨセフに、天の使いの言葉、「恐れないでマリアを迎えるように。」「おなかの子は聖霊に宿ったのだ。」「マリアは男の子を生み、イエスと名づけるように。」そして「神の民を罪から救う。」が与えられる。そして、マタイが伝えていることは、それは、もともとイザヤ7章14節で預言していた「乙女が身ごもって男の子を生ヨセフは信仰深いユダヤ教徒だったので、このイザヤの言葉はよく覚えていただろうし、天使の言葉を信じることができたのだろう。 それにしても、新約聖書を見る限り、イエスが生まれてから一度も、「インマヌエル」と呼ばれているのはどこにも書かれていない。
いったいこの話、現代に生きる我々とどういう関係があるのだろうか？ 私はイエス時代にだれもイエスのことをインマヌエルと呼ばなかったとしても、インマヌエル、「神が共に私たちと居る」という意味のその言葉は、その言葉通り、過去もそうであるし、現在もそうだし、将来に渡って、真実なのだ。 マタイ福音書は28章まであるが、その最後はイエスの言葉で終わっている、「わたしは世の終わりまで、いつもあなたがたと共にいる。」となっている。 つまり、わたしたちひとりひとりは、ひとりぼっちだと思ってしまうこともあるが、けっして「ひとりじゃないの」ということをイエスの存在から気がつこう。
いろいろな人生がある。長年の結婚生活をするなかでも、離れ離れに生活している夫婦がいたりする。そのような時代を通って行けるのは、たとえ離れていても、神なる主イエスキリストがずっと共にいてくださるという共通の信仰があるカップルは多くの神の恵みに気づいて生きることができるとおもう。
聖書の中に描かれている多くのイメージの中に神が花婿で、私たち人間は男性女性にかかわらず、全人類が花嫁のようなところがある。 そして、花婿がずっと花嫁を愛し続けてくださっている。たとえ花嫁がどっかそっぽを向いてしまうようなことがあったとしても、ときには、花婿の気持ちを理解できないことが起こるようなことがあったとしても、永遠に花婿は花嫁を、愛し続けてくださっている。 その花婿がイエスとして、この世に現れてくださり、インマヌエル、私たちとともにいてくださる。わたしたち一人一人は、決して、ひとりじゃない。アーメン。
“Not Me Alone”- “Hitorijanaino”

In the 1970s, there was a pop superstar named Mari Amachi. Her songs became very popular and many of them ranked No. 1 on the hit charts at that time.
Do you know which one was most popular? I googled and researched a bit. Then I found that “Not Me Alone,” which means you are not alone, was the best-selling song among her many hits… Over the years, even in Japan, I wonder how some songs become so popular regardless of who sings them. I am a strong believer that God, Jesus Christ, is working behind these songs.
There were songs like “Love Wins” sung by Kan and “Swim On, Taiyaki!” by Masato Simon. I believe those songs, too, are Biblical and I believe Jesus is in those songs, although they are not really sung in church as hymns or praise songs. In today’s message, I would like to talk about “Not Me Alone” which is closely related to the Gospel text today.
On this fourth Advent Sunday, the Gospel text is from Matthew Chapter 1. Regarding Mary pregnancy, if you read Luke, the focus is more on Mary rather than Joseph. However, in Matthew, the focus is really Joseph, the guy who was engaged to Mary.
If we look around at the people in this sanctuary, I see more females than males; however, I would like all of you to think as if you were Joseph. Even though it may be hard to imagine, but your virgin fiancé is pregnant. How would you feel?
I think this is a meaningful coincidence; we have a couple celebrating their engagement, with us, after this service and we’re discussing a Biblically significant couple. Anyway, if your fiancé is pregnant with another man’s baby, it’s no joke…Therefore, Joseph most likely decided to dismiss her quietly, which ultimately meant not marrying her.
In that situation, God sent him an angel…. The angel said, “Do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”
Then Matthew also wrote that this was originally prophesied by Isaiah, “Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel.” Emmanuel means “God is with us.”
The message by the angel was basically written in Isaiah, one of the Old Testament books, since Joseph was a devout Jew, I believe he knew and could believe what the angel said. However, the word “Emmanuel” does not appear in any other part of the New Testament. Therefore, Jesus was not called “Emmanuel.”
What does this mean to us who live in this 21st century? Even though nobody called Jesus “Emmanuel,” I believe it is a great truth that God, Jesus Christ, has been, and is, and will always be with us.
The Gospel of Matthew ends in Chapter 28. The last sentence ends with the words of Jesus, he said, “And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Which means “you are not alone, “Hitorijanaino,” since you are with God.”
There are many kinds of lives. Satoko and I have been married 29 years. Out of those 29 years, for almost four years we lived separately. Even though we were apart, I believe our faith that God was with us helped us tremendously and allowed us to endure our time apart.
One of many images that Bible describes is: God is the groom and that the whole human race is the bride. That groom loves the bride tremendously and lives with her forever, even though the bride sometimes hates him or does not agree with him. His love was not well understood to her until God revealed himself as Jesus Christ, son of the Father. Christ is the one who is always among us and within each one of us forever and we are better for it. Amen.
