主イエスの恵みと平安が人々の心の中に浸みわたりますように！ アーメン
先週は「私は良い羊飼いである。」と言われ、わたしたちは羊という、ちょっと羊にされてしまうのはなんだかぴんと来ないというか、羊の習性を考えると、履歴書には「私は羊のような人間です」などとはなかなか書けないような話だ。しかしイエスの言われる通りなのかと思う。
さて今日は、イエスが「わたしはまことのぶどうの木」であると話され、わたしたちイエスの弟子たちを、民をぶどうの枝にたとえられた。いったいこれはどういう意味なのだろうか？
このぶどうの枝にたとえられる比喩は、とにかくぶどうの枝を通して栄養が与えられて果実が育つということが鍵だと思う。
イエスはぶどうの木とぶどうの枝のつながっていることの重要性、つまり、イエスとわたしたちの信仰により、つねにつながっている大切さを述べておられることはまちがいないと思う。
この1週間の間、今日の福音書箇所を読み返し、また、牧師仲間とも話し合いの機会を持つなかで、このぶどうにたとえた、イエスからの思いを模索するなかで、「あっ」と気付かされる事がでてきた。 それは、イエスが、自分は羊飼い、門、真理、命のパン、生きた水などと云われた中ではなかなか気がつきにくいことだと思う。
それは、ぶどうの木がぶどうの果実を生むには、ぶどうの枝が必ず必要だということ。 もしぶどうの枝がなかったなら、ぶどうの実はならない。 かといって、ぶどうの枝はぶどうの木につながっており、ぶどうの木の一部であるため、どうしてぶどうの実がなるのだろうかという詳しい仕組みを知る必要はない。
実際は、ぶどうの枝が伸びで花の芽が出て、小さな花のかたまりの房ができて、小さな花びらは落ち、その小さな花の根元だったところがぶどうの実になっていく。 しかし、そのような細かい機序は知らなくたって、ぶどうの木であるイエスからいただく恵みをひたすらぶどうの実に注ぎ続けるのが、ぶどうの枝の役割だ。 そして、ぶどうの木としてはぶどうの枝は絶対に必要なものだ。
このたとえを通して、イエスはいったい私たちに何を語ろうとしているのだろうか？ ぶどう畑の農夫である父、ぶどうの木であるイエスにとって、木につながってぶどうの実がやどるところとなるぶどうの枝、つまり私たち、イエスの弟子は、とてつもなく大切なのだ。
もしイエスの弟子たちが存在していなければ、どうやって果実なるこどもたち、また新しい弟子たちは生まれてこない。
そして、弟子たちの成すことは、まことのぶどうの木なるイエスからいただく愛をぶどうの実となる新たな主イエスの子供たちに、ひたすら受け渡すこと。
このように考えると、イエスの愛をこどもたちに示すことはシンプルなことだ。 イエスから受けた恵みと愛をひたすら子供たちに継承すればよい。 イエスの弟子は、所詮、ぶどうの枝であり、あれやこれやとイエスの愛についてこねくりまわすことはない。ひたすら、イエスの愛を受け渡すのだ。
わたしたちは、今週もまだ復活節の中にある。 イエスキリストの復活から受けた、主からの赦しとあわれみを覚え、わたしたちの信仰を新たに生まれかわらせ、私たちの子供の世代へ、また来るべき孫、ひ孫の世代にも、イエスからの恵みを継承しよう。 そのようなイエスの弟子である私たちを、神は必要としておられる。

Why Does It Grow?
John 15:1-8
May the Grace and Peace be with you in the name of Jesus Christ!
Last week, we heard Jesus say, “I am the Good Shepherd.” In the Gospel of John, there are many other metaphors where Jesus refers to himself as “I am something.” What else you remember besides the Good Shepherd?
According to Jesus, he is the Good Shepherd, but we are just sheep. Considering sheep’s characteristics, we would not like to be compared to sheep. In today’s lesson, Jesus described himself, “I am the true vine. And he said [as his followers], “We are branches.” What does this mean?
In this metaphor, the branches are the ones that bear fruit, the grapes. The reason why the grapevine may bear grapes is because branches carry nutritious ingredients to the vine flowers that become grapes.
In this metaphor there is no doubt that Jesus wanted to teach us the importance of connectedness between the grapevine and its branches. Said another way, faith nourishes each branch. Without God’s miraculous nutrients to each branch, there wouldn’t be grapes on each branch.
During this past week, I read the text again and again. I found that there is a very important aspect in the grapevine metaphor that is a bit different from other metaphors, such as the good shepherd, the bread of life, the gate, the resurrection, the way, the truth, and the life.
In order for the grapevine to bear fruit, it is a necessity to have branches. If there are no branches, the grapevine cannot bear grapes. The branches do not need to know every detail about why the flowers bloom first and the small petals fall and then the bottom parts of the many petals became grapes. However, the branches carry rich nutrients that come from the grapevine to the flowers and then the grapes. Again, the grapevine needs its branches.
Through this metaphor, what is Jesus saying to us? What is Jesus telling us to do? For the father, the grapevine grower, and for the Son, Jesus Christ, the branches are so important to bear fruit. Jesus is saying he needs us.
If there are no followers of Jesus, no Christians are born. What followers, the branches, need to do is carry Jesus’ love that comes from the grapevine, to children, the grapes. This is done through faith in Jesus Christ, so we’re vitally connected to Christ.
I think showing Jesus’ love to our children is simple. Whatever we receive grace and love from Jesus; we should just pour that love unto our children. We are branches and do not need to think about details, and carry his love to others.
We are still in Easter season, by reflecting upon Jesus’ forgiveness, we should renew our faithful hearts and carry Jesus’ love and grace to our next generation and the generations to come. Jesus loves each one of us and Jesus needs us to carry that love to others, especially the children. Amen.
