今日、主のの御言葉が、聖霊の力をおびて、人々の心に豊かに浸み込みますように！
本日の説教タイトル、「今日（きょう）実現した」となっている。 「きょう」っていったいいつのこと？ 西暦2015年1月24日の午前0時から午後11時59分59秒の24時間だけをいっているのだろうか？
日本語では、「今日、わたしがあるのは、あなたのおかげです。」といったりすることがある。 このときの今日には、どういう意味が含まれているだろうか？ 日本語では、「きょう」と書かれた漢字、これを、「こんにち」とも読むが、すこしニュアンスはちがってくる。 今の時代ということを意味してくる。
もう少し言うなら、新約聖書が書かれたのは、約2000年前からいままでの時間は、私たちが、生きる時間80年とかに比べれば、すごい長い期間のように思われる。 しかし、神の目からみて、この地球とか自然が存在している期間は50億年ともいわれ、そのような単位から見れば、2000年は、ほんの一瞬にすぎないこと。だからこの2000年を指して、今日ということだってできるのかもしれない。
さて、本日与えられた福音書の背景を説明したい。福音書記者ルカによると、イエスは荒野で洗礼者ヨハネから洗礼を受けたあとは、40日間は荒野で誘惑を受けられた。 ちょっと話しはそれるかもしれないが、私たちの受ける洗礼も、すぐに信仰生活に導かれるというよりか、40日だったり、40年だったり、すごいよりみちをしてしまうことがある。
イエスの場合は、荒野で誘惑を受けたあと、40日たって、聖霊の力を受けて、ガリラヤ地方での伝道を開始する。 ガリラヤ地方は、イエスが生まれ育ったナザレという町を含む、ガリラヤ湖の西側、東西に約40キロ、南北やはり約40キロくらい地域にある、ユダヤ教の会堂を回って、イエスは教えをひろめはじめた。
そして、自分の生まれ育った町、ナザレの会堂も訪れた。 キリスト教の礼拝は、もともとユダヤ教の礼拝の形式を引き継いでいる。 したがって、聖書を読む時がある。 イエスは聖霊に満たされて、旧約聖書を読む。 といっても今のように、聖書が印刷されて本になっているわけではなく、巻物になっており、そこに手書きでイザヤの語った言葉が書かれているものがイエスに渡された。
イザヤ書の中から、イエスの目がとまったところ、それは、まさに聖霊に満たされて、おこったことだが、イザヤ書61章、1-2節の言葉が読まれる。 「主の霊がわたしの上におられる」という言葉ではじまった。イザヤ書の預言は次のような内容だ。
「その霊で満たされた私は、貧しいもの、経済的な理由で貧しいだけではなく、心貧しきもの、あるいは体の具合が悪いものも含め、さまざまな状況に束縛されている者に、解放をあたえる良き知らせを告げる。そして、主の恵みの年を告げる。」
このようなイザヤの預言を読み、イエスは一度は席に座る。しかし、そこには、聖霊が満たされ、集まっていたものが、イエスに注目した。 そして、イエスは、現代のキリスト教会でも聖書朗読のあとの、牧師の説教があるように、イエスは、拝読したイザヤ書に関して、「この聖書の言葉が、今日、あなたがたが耳にした時、実現した。」と話しはじめられた。
今日与えられた福音書箇所は、2600年前から残されている旧約聖書の中のイザヤの預言に、2000年前にイエスが加えた、「今日、あなたがたが耳にした時、実現した。」という言葉が、新約聖書に書かれ、ずっとキリスト教会は、この言葉をくりかえしくりかえし、世に伝えてきている。 これはすごいことである。
そして、今、この言葉を耳にしている、この礼拝堂にいる私たちにとっても「今日」のことであるはず。それは今という時でもあるし、人類にとって2000年間ずっと続いてきていること。 しかし、私たちは、聖書の言葉をそこまで真剣に、意識をもって読んでいるだろうか？ そこまで聖霊の働きを受け止めて、聖書の言葉を聞いているだろうか？
今日聞いている御言葉は、2000年前にイエスの言葉を直接聞いた人々に、聖霊の力が働き、その言葉をおぼえ、後世に伝えなければという意識をもち、印刷技術もなく、インタネットもない時代に、貴重なイエスの言葉を、2600年前のイザヤの言葉とその時のイエスの言葉を、手書きで書きとめ、それが、伝えられた、神の言葉。 主なる神が、新しい約束の言葉として、つまり新約聖書に顕された、神の言葉。
今日、この礼拝堂で聞いた福音書の言葉は、けっして、2000年前の過去の言葉だけではなく、今日も同じ意味をもった言葉だ。 なぜなら、イエスがこの世に来てくださったり、聖霊が働き続けているから。主イエスのおかげで、今の私たちがあり、たとえどんな困難、悩みがあるような状況があろうが、今日、解放をもたらしてくださっているお方がいる。
今日、新しくはじまった1週間、私たちは、聖霊の力を受け取り、日々の糧として、御言葉を聞いて生きることができますように。 主イエスの力を伴う御言葉は、読んだ時に、わたしたちをあらゆる困難から解放する。 そして、私たちは、その御言葉のすばらしさ、イエスの愛を喜んで分かちあえますように。 その愛の分ち合いが、わたしたちの生き様。
Today Fulfilled!

May the Word together with the Holy Spirit be poured into the hearts of the people in this sanctuary!
The title of today’s message is “Today Fulfilled.” What does “Today” mean? Is it just 24 hours after 12 a.m. midnight until 11:59 p.m.?
In Japanese, there is a phrase “Today I am here is because of you.” In this case today doesn’t mean just the 24 hours of that day. Even in English, we can interpret today as “this age” or current time period…it does not necessarily mean a 24 hour period.
Let me further explain, the New Testament was written about 2000 years ago… This is of course a much longer time period compared to our average earthly lifespan of about 80 years. However, from eternal God, the Bible says 1000 years is like a day… or considering the Earth was created 5 billion years ago. 2000 years is almost just one second compared to that lengthy timespan.
Let’s dive into the Gospel text today and let me give you some background detail. According to Luke, after Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist, he was in the wilderness for 40 days and was tested by the evil one during that period. Although this is a little bit off track, but Jesus did not mission right after he was baptized. In our faith community, there are some people who happen to take time – not only 40 days but even 40 years – before beginning missional work after his or her baptism.
After the tests, Jesus came to the area called Galilee spreading across the western side of the Lake Galilee. I believe the size of Galilee was about a little bit less than Orange County. He visited Jewish synagogues and spread the Gospel.
He came to a synagogue in Nazareth in Galilee where he grew up and worshiped with the people in his home town. By the way, our current Christian worship is similar to Jewish tradition since Jesus was born to the Jewish community. In Jewish tradition, there is a time to read the Bible. On that day, Jesus stood up together with the power of the Holy Spirit and was given the scroll of Isaiah.
His eyes stopped on the place where it starts with “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me” which is Isaiah Chapter 61 verse 1 in our current Bible. And he continued, something like this: “because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
After he read this, he sat down once. but He was full of the Holy Spirit and people watched him. Then, like a preacher, who talks in our worship service, Jesus said, “Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.”
When we reflect upon this situation that happened, Jewish community discussed Isaiah from BC 600 years. Then maybe AD 30 or so, Jesus added His words, as the new promise, the New Testament, to the words of the prophet Isaiah. Again the words Jesus said were “Today this scripture has been fulfilled when you heard this.” The Christian church has been proclaiming these words of Jesus again and again for the last 2000 years. This is an amazing thing.
We are listening to the same words here in this Sanctuary. For the listeners in this sanctuary His words are also fulfilled “today” (i.e. now) strengthened by the Holy Spirit. However are we truly intentionally listening to the Word of God? Are we truly accepting the work of the Holy Spirit and listening to the Word of God?
Because of the Holy Spirit that some people accepted 2000 years ago, they remembered His Word and wrote it down as the New Testament. At that time there was no laser printing technology or internet, but Christian Church has been proclaiming the same words again and again for the last 2000 years. Do you think it is a miracle, only accomplished by the work of the Lord?
The words we listened to today are not the only words spoken 2000 years ago; the words have the same meaning today also because Jesus came to this world and the Holy Spirit is still working in us. Even when we experience challenges and difficulties in this age, at the same time, today, we are freed in our hearing of the Word of Christ, the Savior and the Lord.
My prayer today is that each one of us accept the power of the Holy Spirit and read the scripture as daily bread that changes us today, so that we continue being freed from difficulties. This allows us to openly and joyously share Christ’s Love that continuously informs and shapes our lives. Amen.
