マルコ 1:9-15
主イエスの恵みと平安が集まった会衆の上に豊かに注がれますように！
誘惑という言葉を聞くと、どんなことを想像されるだろうか？ 誘惑という言葉、誘うという言葉と、惑わすという漢字からなるが、なにかの誘いにあって、心が惑わされること。
先月熊本の大江教会に行ってきたが、私は熊本に行くのは２回目だった。 １回目は２５年近く前の話になるが、私には、子供が二人、しかし3人目があと数ヶ月で生まれるという妻子ある32歳の男性会社員。朝一番の羽田発の熊本行きANAに乗っていったが、機内である事件が起こった。
私は窓際から二番目の席に座っていたが、窓際には、私と同じかやや年上と思われる女性が座っていた。 熊本地方には、台風が近づきつつあって、着陸数分前に、飛行機がストンと何十メートルも落とされるような感じで、すごい揺れを感じた。
すると、となりに座っていた女性が突然、私の手をぎゅっと握ってこられた。私はあせってしまった。妻子ある男性にそんな。。。 しかし、それは、私の勘違いで、もちろんその女性は飛行機がゆれた恐怖心から、なんでもよいから近くにあった私の手をつかんだだけで、すぐに、「あっ、すみません」と言われ手を離された。 一瞬の出来事だったが、私は、自分勝手に神の思いと反対の方向のことを考えた、自分の中に誘惑があったことを思う。
さて福音書の内容に入っていきたい。 本当に短い７節だけの聖書箇所だが、大切なこと、大きくわけて三つのことが凝縮している。 一つは、イエスが洗礼を受けたこと。そのとき、聖霊が大きく働いて、天からの声が「イエスは私の愛する子で、私の思いに適うものだ。」との宣言が聞こえたこと。
次の箇所が、受難節に入った最初の日曜に読まれる箇所としてとても重要だが、聖霊の働きが顕われたイエスの洗礼の後、同じ聖霊が、今度はイエスを荒れ野へと送り出し、40日間荒れ野で誘惑を受けて、野獣もいたが、天使に守られる。
そして、40日間の誘惑、試練の後に、イエスの宣教が始まり話が書かれている。 しかし、イエスはどういう誘惑を受けられたのだろうか？ マタイやルカには、もう少し詳しく書いてある。 簡単に現代風に言うならば、必要以上に裕福になりたいという誘惑、二番目は常識はずれな危険な行為をしても神が助けてくれるからといって、神を試そうする誘惑、そして三番目は、悪魔とか神でも無い物を崇拝して社会的地位や権威を得ようとする誘惑。
そもそも、これらの誘惑とは、の根源は、神の思いからイエスを離そうとする、サタンの力。イエスはいったいどうそのサタンに対抗されたのだろうか?
サタンへの対抗方法に入る前に、事実として、三位一体という父と子と聖霊が一体であるキリストさえも、神とイエスを、すなわち父から子を引き離そうとする力が働いた事実を確認しておきたい。
そのようなサタンの力、誘惑に対して、マルコが伝えているのは、その誘惑の間、イエスは野獣といっしょにいたが、天使が仕えていたと表現している。 天使が仕えるというのはどういうことなのだろうか？
詩編91篇になるが、その11節に「 主はあなたのために、御(み)使い－天使のことと考えてよいと思うーに命じて／あなたの道のどこにおいても守らせてくださる。」 また14-15節になると、 神の言葉で、『彼はわたしを慕う者だから／彼を災いから逃れさせよう。わたしの名を知る者だから、彼を高く上げよう。 彼がわたしを呼び求めるとき、彼に答え／苦難の襲うとき、彼と共にいて助け／彼に名誉を与えよう。』とある。
「彼はわたしを慕う」という表現は、父なる神を慕う信仰の大切さが表現されているのだろう。 そして、イエスは徹底的に父なる神に従順に従って十字架への道を歩み、死にて葬られながらも、復活するということが起こった。
イエスさえも誘惑を受けたように、私たちの現代の世の中においても、わたしたちは大きな誘惑を受けて生活しているのだと思う。 誘惑というのは、夫婦関係を危険に追い詰めるようなものとか、恋人同志の関係を危うくするようなものを、誘惑と、私たちは呼ぶかもしれない。 そのような誘惑も含めて、誘惑とは私たちを神の御心から離そうと力が働くこと。
つまり、御心ではない行動をしてしまうように誘われる、あるいは試されるということがある。 そのような時に、イエスがどう対応されたかということを考えると、父なる神に絶対の信頼をおき、神に徹底的に慕う。 この世の考え方からすれば、十字架に向かうなどというばかげた話だと思われるかもしれないが、神に慕うなかで、聖霊が働き、必ず守ってくださる。
イエスは宣教の始りに、「悔い改めの福音を信じなさい。」と言われている。悔い改めがなぜ一番最初で、とても大切だとされるのは、私たち自身の中にひそんでいる、神から自分が離れてしまおうとする罪の力があるからなのだと思う。 イエスは荒れ野で誘惑を受けられたが、自然環境としてはまったく異なる荒れ野ではない、都会でもサタンは多いに働く。 それはサタンは自分自身の中に潜んでいるから。 しかし、そのサタンに勝つために、悔い改めて、主なる神、十字架にかかっても復活される主イエスに絶対の信頼を置き、また新たな1週間を歩もう。

Temptation in the Middle of the Wilderness
Mark 1:9-15

What do you think of when you hear the word, “temptation?” In Chinese characters, in Kanji, the word is composed of two characters, “誘惑”. “誘” means “invite” and “惑” means “confuse” or “perplex”. Therefore, “temptation” may be translated as something that causes someone to believe a false idea.
As you know, I went to Kumamoto last month. As a matter of fact, this was my second time visiting that city. The first time was 24 years ago when I was working for an electronics company. I was 32 years old, a husband and father of two children. At that time the third one was on the way. There was a situation on the plane heading into Kumamoto airport.
I was sitting in the second seat from the window. Sitting in the window seat, there was a woman probably in her late 30s. At that time a typhoon was getting closer to the Kyushu area, as such, a few minutes before landing, we experienced a great amount of turbulence.
The woman next to me suddenly held my left hand and gripped it very strongly. I was so confused and thought it improper since I had a family…then, I noticed that it was just because of the turbulence; she needed to hold something within her reach. She apologized to me and released my hand. Although this was just a moment, I thought to myself, that I was briefly tempted by thoughts contrary to God’s will.
Let’s look at Gospel of Mark today. It is only seven verses, but important things are contained in these verses. The first thing is that Jesus received baptism by the work of the Holy Spirit and the voice of heaven said, “You are my son, beloved, with you I am well pleased.”
The next portion is very important, as a reading, at the beginning of Lenten season. The same Holy Spirit drove him to the wilderness and for forty days Jesus was tempted; he was with beasts and angels were also serving him. After forty days of temptation, Jesus’ ministry began.
During the forty days, how was Jesus tempted? The temptations are not written in the Gospel of Mark, but Luke and Matthew, contain some descriptions. If I were to describe the first temptation in today’s language, it was tremendous wealth. The second temptation was to take an unnecessary risk to test if God would save him. The third temptation was to worship a false god and achieve high social status.
The origins of these temptations are based on the same points or forces that pull Jesus from his father, God. This is called the power of Satan. How did Jesus oppose Satan?
Before talking about how he opposed Satan, let us understand that even Jesus, the Trinitarian God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, experienced Satan’s power that tried pulling Jesus away from the Father.
To be honest, Mark does not describe much about Jesus’ opposition. Only this is written, “he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him.” What does it mean “the angels waited on him?”
Let me quote a few verses from Psalm 91, in verse 11, it reads “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” And in verses 14 and 15, “Those who love me, I will deliver; I will protect those who know my name. When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them.”
In the verse 14, it says, “Those who love me,” sometimes people do not take these verses seriously, but I believe it is important aspect of faith that we love God, the Father. Jesus consistently followed Him, even though it sounded like an astounding idea, he carried the cross on the way and even when he was crucified, God resurrected Him.
Like Jesus’ temptations, we are tempted in a similar manner as we live our lives. The temptation may just mean an argument between a married couple or an issue between a boyfriend and girlfriend, but the very basic idea is that the temptation draws you away from God.
In other words, a force tempts you or tests you to act contrary to God’s will. When temptations occurred, Jesus thoroughly followed God, the Father. Even though the way was to the cross and crucifixion, Jesus followed Him completely. In the midst of difficult situations, the Holy Spirit helped Jesus.
Jesus said, “Repent and believe in the good news” when he started his ministry in today’s Gospel. Repentance means, for us, to confess those sins that are hidden in our own hearts that tempt us to act contrary to God’s will. Even though Jesus was tempted in the midst of the wilderness, we, living in cities, may still be tempted to go against God’s will. As we remember Jesus’ trials, we should rejoice that the Holy Spirit can help us too. We should earnestly follow Jesus during this new week in the early part of Lent. Amen. Pr. Hitoshi Adachi
